Use a dictionary to familiarize yourself with any of the words above that may be new to you.

1. Locate the Bering Sea on your Alaska or Iditarod Trail map. Notice how far it is to Nome. How far does Gary have to travel? How far has he come from Anchorage?

 

2. Locate information about Eskimos. What does Eskimo mean? What is a more appropriate name for them? Which of the two names do you think is more appropriate? Why?

 

There are many ethnic groups of people living in our cultures. In order to be respectiful, it's important that we use appropriate and acceptable terms.
